Zelda: Accept no substitutions

With exception to Zelda II, I’ve played and adored every major Zelda game. Last summer, I had the brilliant idea of trying something new that plays like Zelda. You know, sorta like Amazon’s “You might also like this” recommendation.
Well someone on the internet recommended Neutopia, an old TurboGrafx 16 game (now on Virtual Console) that shamelessly ripped off Zelda. “It’s a really fun and solid knock-off,” I was told, so I downloaded the sequel, since the first game doesn’t support diagonal movement (and who doesn’t want diagonal movement where available).
Yes, Neutopia looks like Zelda. Its gameplay feels similar. But it’s completely devoid of any charm. It has no soul. Worse still, the controls are sloppy. As I later recalled, it really is a stinker.
Moral of the story: If you want to play Zelda, play Zelda. With more than 15 versions to choose from, replaying one is better than any substitute [...]

Zelda team “under considerable pressure” to match Monster Hunter graphics

No one makes better-looking games for Nintendo platforms than Nintendo. Unless of course you’re Capcom, working on the upcoming Monster Hunter Tri for Wii.
“Looking at the graphics objectively, I feel like Monster Hunter Tri’s visuals are a representative example of what can be done on Wii,” Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told a pair of Capcom developers this week. “It has placed the Zelda team under a considerable amount of pressure.”
Monster Hunter Tri, billed as “the best looking game on Wii ever,” arrives April 20. The next Zelda sequel, promising realistic visuals, is rumored to arrive as early as this fall, if not next spring.

Pokemon to be Launch Title for Nintendo 3DS |

As we’re all enjoying our Pokemon Heart Gold & Soul Silver, the world can’t help but squeeze additional information out about the next Pokemon iteration rumored to be hitting Japan later this year. Yesterday, the rumor mill spit out several different tidbits that make just about any Pokemaniac do somersaults all the way to the Pokemon Center.
Nintendo 3DS! – Pokemon Generation 5 will indeed be, as was speculated, a launch title for the Nintendo 3DS.
Transfer Your Pokemon – The game will be backwards compatible with the GBA and DS versions of the game, allowing you to transfer your Pokemon to your new game in a mechanic similar to the Pal Park (although there may be new gameplay elements involved).

Let’s get real: Nintendo will never, ever put games on the iPhone/iPad

I appreciate Business Insider’s spunk, and would actually welcome Nintendo games on my iPhone and soon-to-be purchased iPad, but let’s be honest and completely un-fun for a second:
With the exception of that Philips CD-i Zelda disaster that we’ll never speak of again, Nintendo will never, ever put their games on another company’s hardware.
But like I said above, it would be pretty awesome, right? Who in their right mind wouldn’t buy a “Virtual Console app” from the App Store? It’d sit there on your iPhone screen, waiting to be pressed, and when it was, it would open up and show you all the 8-bit titles you’ve purchased from Nintendo, through Apple, thus far. See Dragon Ball Origins 2’s combat

We’re sure a lot of you missed Dragon Ball Origins the first time around — after all, licensed games are a dime a dozen on DS, and it’s hard to devote your attention to any one, especially if the license isn’t something you care about. However, we thought it was something that deserved attention, as the sequel is likely to be.
These brief clips of Dragon Ball Origins 2 will pretty much get you up to speed: it’s top-down, stylus (or button) controlled fighting, much like the DS Zeldas but faster and with more combat. If knocking a bunch of dudes off of snowmobiles with a giant, magical staff sounds like your kind of fun, you’re in for a treat.
