First direct-feed screens of Pokemon Black and White

Posted by in Gaming on 04 15th, 2010

Here’s your first (clear) look at the new Pokémon Black and White for DS. While at first blush, these four screens look pretty much like Pokemon, they hint at some interesting changes for the engine. For example, the characters are different sizes in the different screens, suggesting that the camera zooms in and out. That city area looks a lot more … polygonal, in general, as well. Still, we’re hoping there’s a lot more innovation involved in the actual gameplay, because spruced-up graphics are far from the “rebirth” promised with this game’s initial announcement.
The battle sequence shows in-game sprites for the Zorua and Zoroark, the two evolutions of the single new Pokemon announced so far. Pokémon Black and White will be released this fall in Japan.

Investigate these new Sherlock Holmes screens
14
Apr
Posted by in Gaming on 04 14th, 2010

Focus Home Interactive has released a new batch of screens from the upcoming Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of Osborne House for the DS. Specifically, the screens show off some of the game’s puzzles. Without any context to go with the screens, we’re definitely feeling a Professor Layton vibe, which is by no means a bad thing. The press release promises that players will have to use their “logic and observation senses through dozens of riddles, puzzles and brain teasers of all sorts,” which also sounds about right for the Professor Layton crowd. We can only hope that Holmes manages to compete with the professor’s English sensibilities and gentlemanly charms.
It’s clear that both of them share the same fondness for distinctive hats, so maybe there’s hope. Check out the new images in the gallery below.

White DSi comes with Bowser’s Inside Story
14
Apr
Posted by in DS, DSi, Gaming on 04 14th, 2010

If you haven’t picked up a DSi, and or Mario and Luigi; this might be the perfect time too. Especially if you don’t want to lug around the the bulky and bigger DSi XL. Starting April 25, a white versions of the Nintendo DSi will be sold at certain stores for the price of $169.99.
While most of you probably have a DS/DSlite and are on the fence about upgrading to a DSi; let me just say, Bowser’s Inside Story is one of the better Mario and Luigi game titles out there. It seems like a pretty good bundle for a limited edition color as well.
Yet, seriously, how many of you guys are going to wait for the Nintendo 3ds? Do you think Nintendo shot themselves in the foot for announcing it way earlier than they should have?

Dragon Quest Victory attacks Wii this summer in Japan
14
Apr
Posted by in Gaming, Wii on 04 14th, 2010

Been hankering for more Dragon Quest since the release of The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors? Square Enix has announced Dragon Quest Victory for Wii in Japan, an adaptation of the Dragon Quest Monsters Battle Road arcade game. The Wii version is set to launch this summer and features card-based battles for up to four players via local split-screen and the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The game will also include a “Tournament” mode, in which players face off against a succession of NPCs in a virtual town, collecting cards.
Perhaps the coolest feature of all is connectivity between the arcade and Wii games, using a DSi. Players will be able to download a special DSiWare app that will scan in the arcade version’s cards, allowing transport over to the Wii game. The price of the DSiWare app is currently unknown.

Infendo Leftovers-Pokemon:Explorers of Sky
14
Apr
Posted by in Gaming on 04 14th, 2010

I confess Infendo Readers, I have a debt – and that debt has a name:  Pokemon: Explorers of Sky.  I hadn’t touched a Pokemon title since classic Red & Blue when Explorers of Sky landed on my desk – but there it was – a wildly different Pokemon game with new creatures, new challenges, and a deadline stiffly ignored.  Why did this review get swept under the carpet?  It’s not a bad game, just nothing to write home (blogs?) about.   Let’s explore the sky.
Pokemon: Explorers of Sky is the third in the second DS Pokemon Mystery dungeon game.  Wait, 3rd in the 2nd? That’s right – following the standard Pokemon formula, the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorer’s games released two slightly different versions of the same game: Time, and Darkness.  Much like Pokemon Yellow/Platinum, a third game was released later with a few new features that weren’t included in the original [...]

Preview: Lost in Shadow a “hidden Wii gem”
14
Apr
Posted by in Gaming, Wii on 04 14th, 2010

In a preview published today, game blog Kotaku had nothing but nice things to say about Hudson’s upcoming puzzle-platformer, coming this fall to Wii:
Its inventive, light-based puzzles and artsy look should make it a critical success, and if its still undisclosed back-story justifies the core design, we could be looking at a dark horse game of the year contender on the Wii.

Radar, meet Lost in Shadow. Lost in Shadow, say hello to my radar.

Just Dance: Can 2 million people be wrong?

Click here to view the embedded video.
Ubisoft surprised the gaming industry last month (myself included), announcing that Just Dance had sold 2 million copies worldwide in fewer than four months, making it the fastest selling third-party Wii game ever.
“The consumer response to Just Dance has been overwhelming,” said Ubisoft’s Tony Key at the time. “With Just Dance’s success we’ve seen a renewal of the music video game genre, as this is truly a game that is accessible and enjoyable for everyone.”
My mother-in-law swears by the $40 party game, saying she’s had more fun with it than any other Wii title. Unsurprisingly, veteran reviewers panned the game upon its release last November, while user ratings average a favorable 8 out of 10.
Obviously there’s an anomaly in the system. So for any Infendoites who have played the game, is the hype warranted?

Japanese Nintendo downloads: Darius Twin, Max & the Magic Marker
13
Apr
Posted by in DS, Gaming on 04 13th, 2010

With only one download per service, Japan’s Wii and DSi Shops this week resemble the kind of updates we’re used to in North America. At least the content is mostly good. Darius Twin, the SNES debut of Taito’s horizontal shmup series, provides multiplayer shooting against a variety of giant robotic sea creatures. And Rakugaki Hero is the World Game Parade-localized Max & the Magic Marker.
As for, Let’s Make a Zoo on DSiWare, it was released elsewhere as Zoo Frenzy. It’s all the fun of managing a fake zoo! The full list of weekly releases follows:

Darius Twin (Super Famicom, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points)
Rakugaki Hero (WiiWare, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
Let’s Make a Zoo (DSiWare, 1 player, 800 DSi Points)
