Monster Hunter Tri Promotional Video

Click here to view the embedded video.
Who here is excited for Monster Hunter Tri? I know I am, who doesn’t like slaying ridiculously-dinosauric-draconic-monsters? Monster Hunter Tri is one of the few games I didn’t expect to see on the Wii. I mean honestly if Anyone came up to me two years ago and said, “Hey, Monster Hunter is coming to the Wii!” I would of laughed in their face.
Anyway, who here is picking this game up? I mean I’d do it anyway for the Classic Controller Pro.

NintendoWare Weekly: Mega Man 4, Bang Attack, Game & Watch

Apr
Posted by in Gaming on 04 19th, 2010

The Wii’s Mega Man arsenal has grown once again, adding Mega Man 4 to the collection of games that can be chosen from a menu and loaded up — you know, like weapons on Mega Man’s arm, except acquired through commerce and not robot murder. They’d be very different games if you had access to a charge card instead of a Charge Shot.
Speaking of growing collections, DSiWare is now home to three more downloadable Game & Watch simulators, putting us all well on the way to understanding Mr. Game & Watch’s attacks in Super Smash Bros. (Hint: You’ll want to use the sausages.) See all the available downloads after the break.

Pokemon Black & White media evolves into video on Pokemon Sunday
18
Apr
Posted by in Gaming on 04 18th, 2010

Within the span of nine days, we’ve seen Pokémon Black & White go from being announced to being featured in magazines to, now, appearing in video form on the madness-fueled weekly Japanese show Pokémon Sunday. A Siliconera reader with a penchant for insanityvision (like television, but, ya know, insane) spotted the footage, which has the show’s hosts (and Lucario) gasping and commenting on a brief gameplay clip.
Since our resident Pokéxpert Griffin McElroy is out this weekend, we’re unable to confirm whether the footage matches the levels of excitement displayed by the show’s hosts, but we have to imagine that, somewhere, he just got stood up and cheered without knowing why. See it for yourself after the break.

Earthworm Jim available on DSiWare in Europe next week
16
Apr
Posted by in DS, DSi, Gaming on 04 16th, 2010

Next Friday, Gameloft’s DSiWare port of Earthworm Jim will be available on DSiWare in Europe for 500 points. Nintendo of America hasn’t made any announcements about a release date, but this opens the slim possibility that we could see it in North America next week as well!
It’s not exactly Earthworm Jim as we remember: Nintendo of Europe’s info page for the game reveals that, in addition to what looks like a faithful port of the Super NES game, the DSiWare version has ”
facial-expression-based challenges” that require you to make a particular face at the DSi’s camera.
Hopefully every single challenge will require a “simultaneously frustrated and delighted” expression, because that’s the face we all make unconsciously while playing Earthworm Jim.

European Nintendo downloads: Mega Man 4, Rage of the Gladiator
16
Apr
Posted by in DS, Gaming on 04 16th, 2010

Capcom’s about a month late to use a classic Mega Man game as a promotional tool for Mega Man 10, but that’s okay! Mega Man 4 is now available on the European Virtual Console, and even though it’s slightly mis-timed, the end result is that you can buy another Mega Man game right now. Also available on Wii is Ghostfire Games’ gladiatorial Punch-Out!! variant, Rage of the Gladiator.
DSiWare’s new downloads include a collection of puzzle games (sudoku, kakuro, anagrams, etc.) and the downloadable version of Mr. Driller.

Mega Man 4 (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
Rage of the Gladiator (WiiWare, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points)
Bloons (WiiWare, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs – Fight For Survival (DSiWare, 1-2 players, 800 DSi Points)
Mr. Driller Drill Till You Drop (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points)
Pocket Pack: Words & Numbers (DSiWare, 1-6 players, 500 DSi Points)
System Flaw: Recruit (DSiWare, 1 players, 500 [...]

Catch this trailer for the 13th Pokemon movie, Phantom Champion Z

Apr
Posted by in Gaming on 04 16th, 2010

Wow, really? 13 Pokemon movies? At what point do you think there will be more movies than games? Yeah, we’re just kidding — that’ll never happen.
There’s a trailer available via Filb.de for the 13th film, Phantom Champion Z, past the break. Put your eyes on it and let its splendor wash over you like an awesome wave of awesomeness. Hey, in the least it’s got copious amounts of Zorua and Zoroark from Pokémon Black and White, so that’s easily worth the click.

If it weren’t for GameCube profits, would there even be a Wii?
16
Apr
Posted by in Gaming, Wii on 04 16th, 2010

As the predecessor to Wii, the GameCube was Nintendo’s worst selling console ever. During its six year life, it sold only 22 million units worldwide. Despite this, Nintendo reportedly turned a profit on the little purple box, thanks to a strong lineup of first party games and low cost hardware.
That said, I can’t help but wonder if Wii would have materialized had the GameCube operated at a loss. Would Nintendo have invested the necessary research and development costs on Wii had it not been for said profits? With access to enormous credit lines, they might have.
But the underwhelming success of GameCube coupled with its modest profits might have been just the thing to encourage Nintendo into rethinking its approach. What do you think? What if the GameCube was a complete bust? Would there even be a Wii? Perhaps something more desperate?

March NPD: Pokemon and Kratos catch all the money
16
Apr
Posted by in Gaming on 04 16th, 2010

The ill-timed announcement of the 3DS wasn’t enough to scare consumers off from purchasing new DS systems. Thanks to the combination of a new hardware variant (the big, big, big DSi XL) and new Pokemon games, the dual-screened platform sold like gangbusters. Meanwhile, hardware shortages kept the PS3 from massive sales despite the fact that it had the best-selling game of March (God of War 3).
Speaking of software, we’ve learned a lot about you from this month. For example, Final Fantasy fans strongly prefer PS3, Battlefield fans strongly prefer 360, and Pokemon fans’ dollar votes went to SoulSilver over HeartGold by quite a lot. How do you even decide something like that? Seriously, one of the 1.78 million or so of you who bought it — take us through your process!

-Wii: 558K160K (40%)
