NEWS: Wii U Sizzle Reel Featured Video from Xbox 360 and PS3 Versions of Games |
13 Jun |
Reggie promises that third-party titles on Wii U will look at least as good as their counterparts on the other systems.
“Most” of the footage shown representing third-party Wii U games featured in Nintendo’s press conference are apparently from Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. In an interview with Gametrailers’ Jeff Keighley (at 4:33), Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils-Amie confirmed that the videos were from other consoles, and explained that it is because the system is “a year away.”
When asked if the games would look “as good” or “better” than the versions showed, Reggie noted that the graphics are ultimately up to the third party developers. He reinforced that the system is 1080p, and is capable of providing visuals on par with Sony and Microsoft’s consoles.

Thor and Captain America to avenge in 3D on PS3, Xbox and (of course) 3DS |
18 Mar |
Sega is showing the Thor and Captain America games at an event for both Marvel properties, and is also tweeting news snippets out of said event. First off, games based on both Marvel movies will be released on 3DS.
Second — and this dovetails nicely — the Xbox and PS3 versions will also be playable in 3D. No word yet about whether this will require a 3D television or if it’ll be something like TriOviz that works on everything. Thor is currently slated for a May 11 release, with Captain America following sometime this summer.

Pachter: Xbox 360 outsold PS3 two-to-one in December; Nintendo reveals numbers |
11 Jan |
Wedbush Securities games industry analyst Michael Pachter’s magic crystal ball predicts another month of Xbox 360 dominance in the NPD charts. His latest report to IndustryGamers says to expect sales of Microsoft’s console to be more than double that of its biggest competitor, the PS3, for December. Prognosticating that the Xbox 360 sold 2.5 million units last month, he’s betting on a 91 percent boost in sales over November for Microsoft. As for the PS3, Pachter figures it sold 1.2 million units in December, a 12 percent dip compared to its performance in November.
As for actual real numbers, Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata revealed in an interview with Nikkei (via Andriasang) that the Wii sold over two million units in December. The DS reportedly performed on par with the same period in 2009, which would be somewhere around three million units.

Michael Jackson: The Experience moonwalks onto PS3 and Xbox 360 April 12 |
6 Jan |
Someone whose name has been lost to history once said, “Don’t stop ’til you get enough.” And that’s exactly what Michael Jackson fans have done with Ubisoft’s Michael Jackson: The Experience. Fans have not stopped buying the game to the tune of two million copies so far — what Ubisoft’s declared a “global holiday hit” — in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, across the currently available Wii, DS and PSP releases.
As for the forthcoming PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, Ubisoft has announced you’ll be able to pantomime along to the hits using Kinect or Move on April 12 in North America, and on April 14 in EMEA territories. Additionally, the “Blood on the Dance Floor” and “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” songs will be exclusive to these versions, “with additional tracks to be revealed soon.”

Xbox 360 and PS3 dominated UK in 2010, game market sales totaled £2.875 billion |
4 Jan |
The UK video game market withstood a 13 percent sales decline in 2010 from 2009, according to The Association for UK Interactive Entertainment’s annual report. UKIE put total software and hardware sales at £2.875 billion ($4.8 billion) in the territory last year, with console games alone accounting for £1.45 billion ($2.26 billion) of the total gross.
The Xbox 360 and PS3 were the only hardware platforms to see sales growth, with the 360 accounting for £232 million ($361 million) in sales from 18.2 million consoles sold (thanks price break!), and the PS3 just below that figure with £229 million ($357 million) in sales from 13.8 million units. UKIE didn’t share specific numbers for handhelds or the Wii, though its report notes the total revenue for console hardware sales amounted to £800 million ($1.25 billion) in 2010.
Of course, key product releases helped sell those consoles — the biggest undoubtedly being Call of [...]
