Tron: Evolution release date and Collector’s Edition revealed
30

Posted by in Gaming on 08 30th, 2010

Disney seems to have gotten the message that you guys like collector’s editions. With toys in them. One day after the reveal of the Epic Mickey Collector’s Edition, Disney Interactive has announced the Collector’s Edition release of Tron: Evolution for PS3 and Xbox 360.
The package contains the game (obviously), along with a toy model Light Cycle by Sideshow Collectibles and a display case with a drawer for the game — all for $130. We spent too long thinking about this and realized that since “real” light cycles are only supposed to exist in a virtual computer world, these toys are more tangible than the genuine article!
Disney has also announced a December 7 release date for the Collector’s Edition and, of course, all other versions of Tron: Evolution game, including those for Wii, PSP, DS and PC.

Oh, you thought the Virtual Console was back in full force? That’s understandable — what with there finally being a new game to play last week. But here we are again: It’s Monday and there are no new Virtual Console releases to speak of. Instead, we get one new WiiWare game and three new DSiWare titles. Check ‘em out after the break.

Kirby’s Epic…Trousers?

A recent preview of Kirby’s Epic Yarn (or Epic Yam, as we like to call it) in Nintendo Power, showcased the story and background behind Kirby’s latest adventure. It turns out that the sorceror Yin-Yarn is out to cause mayhem by turning Dream Land’s inhabitants into Yarn. Kirby, being the only one who can try to take action, ends up angering the sorceror, and is sucked into the sock around Yin-Yarn’s neck, leaving Kirby in Patch Land. The article included this screenshot from the game’s story.

Longtime readers might recall when my Xbox 360 died back in December.  I wrote what might be the least dramatic moment-by-moment retelling of a death in human history.  Over a month later, I wrote a follow-up blog post about the absolutely insane events that followed.
The short version is as follows:
1. The Xbox died in early December.2. I shipped it a few days later.

Do the last five hours of Metroid: Other M redeem the first five? No.

Posted by in Gaming on 08 30th, 2010

By popular reader demand, I beat Metroid Other M this weekend. Did completing the game change my “meh” opinion? No.
As rated in my original review, Metroid: Other M is an average game at best, made worse by limiting controls and a pathetic story. As a result, I believe Other M will go down as a top contender for “weakest Metroid ever.”
That said, I did learn some things from “Metroidgate.” They are as follows:

I should have disclosed that my review was based on an incomplete play through. Although Infendo doesn’t require the completion of a game before recommending it to our readers, this would have been helpful for our most ardent readers.
I should have mentioned that you can “sense dodge” while in third person mode by tapping the D pad, but the truth is, it doesn’t work well enough to change my opinion that you are a [...]

New studio ‘Detune’ announces Korg M01 for DS

Posted by in DS, Gaming on 08 30th, 2010

The developers of Korg DS-10 (who originally worked at Cavia and AQ Interactive) have formed a new studio called Detune, and are continuing the work of emulating Korg synthesizers on the DS. The new software, Korg M01, is designed to replicate the functions of Korg’s best-selling synthesizer, the M1, which has been dubbed a “music workstation” (combining a keyboard, synthesizer, and sound module).
M01 will be available to amateur musicians (and other DS owners) in Japan this December, evidently published by Korg and Detune themselves. An Amazon limited edition has also been revealed. The company has yet to say a word (or emit a pleasing tone) regarding a release outside of Japan.

Price drop for DSi and DSi XL in North America on September 12

Nintendo of America has announced price reductions for the DSi and DSi XL systems. Starting September 12, the handhelds will retail for $149.99 and 169.99, respectively.
Americans have been waiting patiently for this price drop, which occurred in the UK and Japan this June. The DSi had a price drop in Australia way back in April. We were all waiting for a price drop even before that, of course, since the 3DS is on the way to make both of these things appear a little more antiquated.

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn lights up stores on November 29

Aug
Posted by in Gaming on 08 30th, 2010

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn was missing from Nintendo’s recently announced fall lineup, creating concerns that Camelot’s RPG revival had been quietly escorted out of 2010. Nintendo allayed those fears this morning by announcing a North American release date of November 29. That means it will only have been seven years since the last Golden Sun. That’s not so bad. Can you imagine having to wait eight years?
DS RPG addicts will have to finish up Dragon Quest IX, and then blaze through October’s Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light to make room for this. “Too many RPGs” is a wonderful problem to have.
