Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions DS Preview: Hand Not Held

At a recent preview event for Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Activision had all versions of the game playable but, for the life of me, I just couldn’t put the DS game down. Developed by Griptonite, the DS version is heavy on the exploration and features a light, fluid combat system.
The DS game features only three different dimensions: Amazing, Noir and 2099. Lacking the Ultimate realm, the game also puts less emphasis on the differences between each dimension. Spidey’s abilities at the outset of entering each dimension are a tad different, but the mix of climbing and combat remains the same.

If your Wii died tomorrow…

Which downloaded games would you re-purchase?
Nintendo’s policy on downloaded Wiiware and Virtual Console games—locking them to one console per purchase—annoys just about everyone. If your machine dies and Nintendo can repair your machine, no problem. If you need to purchase a new Wii, however, you’ve lost all ownership of your downloaded games.
So if you had to buy a new machine, which Wiiware/VC titles do you love enough to buy all over again?
I’ve enjoyed a lot of downloaded games, including Swords and Soldiers, Let’s Catch! and TV Show King. But as far as purchasing a second time? For me, the list begins and ends with a single title: Dr. Mario.
Polished, fun and addictive, this is one Wiiware game worth far more than its asking price. It’s a great quickplay game to sit on the Wii’s home screen, and I wouldn’t hesitate to pay another ten bucks for it if and when [...]

‘999′ to ensnare North America this November

Posted by in Gaming on 08 31st, 2010

999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors, a graphical text adventure released in Japan last December, will challenge North American audiences this November. Aksys Games confirmed last month that the unusual DS title would ship across the ocean, but didn’t offer a release window at the time.
With a premise akin to Saw (the movie and game), 999 involves nine people who are locked behind nine doors on an old passenger ferry. They have only nine hours to solve various puzzles before they drown, and are unable to contact Professor Layton for help.

Nintendo DSi and DSi XL price cut coming September 12th
31
Aug
Posted by in DS, DSi, Gaming on 08 31st, 2010

Nintendo has announced price cuts for the DSi and DSi XL, with the two portable consoles set to shed $20 apiece. As of September 12th, the Nintendo DSi will be priced at $149.99, while the Nintendo DSi XL will be $169.99; the DS Lit will stay at $129.99 as before.

Nintendo are billing the price cut as a generous offer to US customers wanting to squeeze the value out of every dollar, though we’d also wager that tumbling DSi sales had something to do with it as well. The company dropped Japanese prices for the handhelds back in June.
Of course, it also gives them the opportunity to clear stock ahead of the 3DS launch, about which Nintendo are expected to reveal more details come September 29th.

KORG M01 music workstation
31
Aug
Posted by in Gaming on 08 31st, 2010

DETUNE and KORG teamed up to develop a new portable music workstation station titled Korg M01. The Korg M01 was inspired by the original Korg M1, "the world’s first widely-known music workstation" released in 1988 and included over 300 instrument samples on it’s 4MB waveform ROM.
The KORG M01 music workstation will have an 8-track/16 step sequencer (one sequence of 64 steps and 12-note polyphony max). I’m guessing it will also include all the instrument samples from the original M1 ROM. There’s also the ability to exchange data and music over WiFi connection.
From what i can tell, like the previous KORG DS-10, it will only be on sale via Amazon.jp where you can pre order it now for 5980 yen, to be shipped on December 31st.

New clones of PSjailbreak are in the making!
31
Aug
Posted by in Gaming on 08 31st, 2010

We all know that the PSjailbreak is overpriced and is selling in
stores over $120. Now new clone makers found out how the original team
made the PSjailbreak and are now making there own clones of it and will
be selling them for a cheaper price. The X3jailbreak is a new clone of
the PSjailbreak there official website is here.
The X3jailbreak will be around $55 – $65 which is a lot cheaper then
the original PSjailbreak. Don’t think the X3jailbreak is legit? Well
the X3Jailbreak team sent out samples to lots of websites for them to
test it out and see if it works, well logic-sunrise have confirmed that
the X3jailbreak is the real deal and that it works. We still recommend
not to buy it because we do not currently know if Sony will be able to
block it in a future update and if they do then your USB might just be
useless. People have found out that you [...]

Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded’s extra modes explored in screenshots

Posted by in Gaming on 08 30th, 2010

Famitsu recently uploaded a whole gang of Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded screens showing off a few departures from the action-RPG roots of the franchise. Pictured here are the turn-based battle mode, which appears to only become available in the returning Olympus Coliseum world, and some sort of board game that seems to be the player’s main method for improving attributes and learning new abilities.
You can check out all the screens over on Famitsu while we have nightmare flashbacks to the Sphere Grid from Final Fantasy X.

REVIEW: Metroid: Other M Review
30
Aug
Posted by in Gaming on 08 30th, 2010

It’s not great for a Metroid game, but there is some fun to be had… after the credits roll.

I beat Metroid: Other M on Saturday night and instantly sat down to write a very negative, raw, emotional review of what had turned out to be a very disappointing game. The next day, however, I sat down with it again and discovered that, bizarrely, it actually improves immensely once you load up your completed game. So, I binned the old review and played some more. And what I found was wonderful, so I have to try this review again. And the more I thought about the story and the pacing of Other M, famously lambasted by other media outlets, I came to realize that, really, none of us should be surprised by the direction the series has gone. We’ll get to that in a minute, but first, let’s talk about this [...]
