Zelda: Link to the Past… for the NES?!

Click here to view the embedded video.
If you’re a classic Nintendo collector, you may be familiar with “Hong Kong Originals,” and pirate cartridges – if you aren’t, it’s simple – NES, or “Famicom” development is alive and well in Hong Kong and China black markets. The result? Terrible 8-bit versions of popular properties, such the “Link to the Past” ripoff featured here – Zelda 3: Triforce of the Gods. Elsewhere on the internet? You’ll find an Famicom version of World of Warcraft.
That’s China for you. Keeping the dream alive.

Club Nintendo fans for Nintendo fans
|
29 Apr |
Nintendo of Japan has unveiled the latest prizes to tempt people out of their Club Nintendo coins: a series of Japanese folding fans in Mario and Animal Crossing motifs. For 150 coins each, the service has four surprisingly cool-looking fans: one featuring Mario on a monochrome background, one with Bloobers on blue, an Animal Crossing fireworks scene, and another Animal Crossing image with a pink color scheme. These will be available through June 30. Nintendo also put the Mario poster set on the Japanese site.
We used to see things like these and lament the fact that they’d never be available outside of Japan. But North America’s Club Nintendo actually brings over a lot of stuff from the Japanese club now!

Confirmed: Black Wii consoles arrive in May |
29 Apr |
Just as some suspected, black Wii consoles are heading for store shelves on May 9 in the US and May 23 in Canada. The confirmation comes from a GameStop employee who received a monthly shipment from Nintendo containing a poster advertising a black Wii console bundled Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Wii MotionPlus and a Wii mote for $199.99. Although the poster came with explicit instructions not to be displayed until May 4, the excited GameStop employee couldn’t wait to share his discovery with the Interwebs.
When the Wii was first unveiled as the Revolution many fans clamored to get their hands on a sleek black, or other colored, console. Interested in a monolith-like Wii? Let us know in the comments!

Puzzle Quest 2 trailer for DS drops in |
29 Apr |
If the Puzzle Quest 2 XBLA trailer last month wasn’t your thing, check out the promo for the portable version of the RPG puzzler. The trailers are almost identical, except that all the XBLA shots are replaced with clips showing almost the exact same scenes on the DS. It’s certainly good for comparison.
D3 Publisher has already stated that Puzzle Quest 2 on DS will not be plagued by the loading time issues found in Galactrix so if that’s been keeping you up at night, rest easy.

Nintendo’s Tomodachi Collection now a TV show
Filed under: Gaming
|
28 Apr |
There’s no indication of Nintendo localizing its DS hit Tomodachi Collection, in which you interact with a house full of your Miis as well as celebrity guest Miis. But its dominance in the Japanese market has reached a ridiculous high: it’s being spun off into a TV show.
“Koi no Kaitou?! Tomokore no Ni-se” (Love’s Answer?! Tomodachi Collection Second Generation) stars three young girls with famous parents, who talk about relationships with a guest “second generation talent.” They also make a Mii for the guest and have their Miis take part in Tomodachi Collection-related activities like singing together in-game.
This scintillating programming will be on Japan’s Tokyo MX channel starting May 6.
