Since you asked, I’m gonna cozy up to a little Trine, Picross 3D, Streets of Rage 2 on Virtual Console, and 3D Dot Heroes. Okay, I won’t get to them all. But I did want to name drop the games I plan on playing. Yeah, baby!
What about you? What are you playing this weekend?

Mega Man Zero Collection zeroes in on June release
Filed under: Gaming
|
29 Apr |
Capcom has revealed that the Mega Man Zero Collection for DS will hit its projected “early summer” release, despite its delay in Japan. Specifically, the publisher announced that the compilation of four Game Boy Advance side-scrollers will arrive in North America on June 8 for $30. That’s just $7.50 per Zero! Additionally, a new trailer can be seen above, and the (lovely) box art has been added to our gallery.
New features in the collection include customizable controls, art gallery functionality (which displays art on the bottom screen and the game on the top screen, so you can look while you play), and a new “Easy Scenario” mode to help new players get through these difficult games.

Level-5 and Studio Ghibli’s Ni no Kuni delayed again
Filed under: Gaming
|
29 Apr |
Those of us looking to recreate the Studio Ghibli movie experience of a young child being drawn into a magical hidden world will just have to be patient. Ni no Kuni, the DS RPG co-created by Level-5 and the legendary animation studio, has been delayed until this fall. (It had previously been delayed from last year to this spring.)
Not much of an announcement of the delay was made — just quiet indication from various Japanese gaming news sources that Ni no Kuni’s scheduled release window had been changed to the fall. Perhaps as some consolation some new screenshots were released, depicting Oliver and a friend working on a car (seen above). If you’d like to know if this is a game worth waiting for (even if a localized version has not been announced), please direct your attention to our impressions of the TGS demo.

Review: WarioWare D.I.Y. Showcase, Essential Companion to the DS Counterpart |
29 Apr |
First, a disclaimer: before playing WarioWare D.I.Y. Showcase, I had never played a WarioWare game before in my life. However, I have to say that my first experience with this franchise was definately a positive one. WarioWare D.I.Y. Showcase for WiiWare is an excellent companion piece to WarioWare D.I.Y. for the Nintendo DS. This game will allow you to sync up your DS game to the Wii, and play your created games (along with over 50 preprogrammed games and downloadable ones from wifi) on the Wii. The pick-up-and-play nature of the game makes it easy to learn, but difficult to master.
Within the preprogrammed games, there are four different themed sets with their own animations. My person favorites were the Wario Man (where you try and rescue kids who are desperately trying to get into locked bathroom stalls before they wet themselves) and 18 Volt (where to [...]

For those of you Pokemaniacs out there who are constantly searching for a good reference on evolution, stats, moves, breeding, and more, I highly recommend AAA Pokedex for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. It’ll run you a couple of bucks, but its well worth it. The developer is also constantly updating it with new features.

NPD: Handheld gaming growing in popularity among children
Filed under: Gaming
|
29 Apr |
New data from the NPD shows that portable game systems are increasing in popularity among kids aged 4 to 14. 44% of kids in the U.S. between these ages use a handheld, up eight percent from a similar study in 2005. What happened since 2005? Oh, right, the PSP and DS Lite. And the iPhone, for that matter. Just eight percent?
According to the report, more kids own portable game systems than other types of devices. In addition, NPD noted that many of these handhelds were acquired used, with more kids receiving used game systems in 2009 than in 2008.
“Kids ages 14 and under were the primary recipient of 37 percent of hardware unit sales for the 12 months ending March 2010,” NPD analyst Anita Frazier told IndustryGamers, also noting that the amount of kid-targeted digital content being downloaded is on the rise, suggesting that kids are open to the [...]

Halo-maker signs deal with Activision, could bring games to Wii |
29 Apr |
Once a wholly owned subsidiary of Microsoft, the now independent Bungie Studios announced a 10 year publishing deal with Activision today. As you’ll remember, Activision releases games on all consoles, including the top-selling Wii, so it’s likely we’ll see a Bungie game on Nintendo hardware at some point in the future. It won’t be Halo, a game Microsoft retained. But it will be made by the makers of Halo. How does that sound?
